Nasca Lines, Peru

The Nasca Lines were really cool to see! They are designs in the fields made by the ancient population, which are best seen from the air. The reason for the designs is unknown, although a leading thought is that they were made as temples for the gods. They were made by hand by moving stones - all in the scorching hot desert sun.
(although another thought is that aliens were guiding the creation of the designs from the sky)

We arrived early in the morning after an overnight bus and booked a flight as soon as we could. The flight is only 30 minutes, but it's enough time in the air circling fields in a small plane. In addition to the figures we saw, there are all sorts of geometric patterns in the area.

It's a unique part of Peru that we were glad to have seen. It's amazing that you can see the designs so clearly from hundreds of feet up in they sky. Although, I actually thought they'd stand out more based on photos I've seen.

The negative about this stop on our trip was that it added a lot of extra travel, a lot of time on buses, and took up a whole day for a 30 minute flight. There's nothing else to see in Nasca and we didn't have the time or desire to stay and spend a couple of nights in the nearby Ica or Huacachina (known for dune buggies and sand boarding).
