Indonesia highlights

This leg of the travel journey was 6 weeks in SE Asia. I have written posts for each stop, but for now, here are the overviews, starting with Indonesia.

I'm traveling with my good friend from home, Josh.

In Indonesia, we spent 12 days in Uluwatu, Ubud, Gili Air, Nusa Lembongan and Kuta (for a night before the airport).

The people are very religious. There are many temples (each home compound even has a family one).

Offerings are everywhere.

Roosters are also everywhere - making noise all the time.

That water was clear and beautiful, with awesome reefs.

Which made for serious surfing waves, but also great snorkeling and diving.

Our main mode of transportation was a scooter

We saw kids as young as 8 riding scooters

And gas for the scooters was sold in liquor or water bottles on the side of the road, and for about $0.75 / liter

The Chinese tourists were ridiculous and would arrive by bus loads in the color coordinating shirts

We stayed at amazing and unique places for $20 or less (each) per night.

The local food was really good - and cheap!

But there was also a lot of health food options

They eat with their hands

The people are so kind, but the wage their is very little so most have never even left the island of Bali, yet alone traveled outside of the country

The women are responsible for most of the manual labor

Kites seem to be the most popular toy

There is a complete absence of police, but also a lack of crime

We're sad this part is ending...but off to Thailand
